| In general, if your registration number falls into one of these categories, it may be worth considering selling: | |
| Name number plate | The registration number creates a recognizable name or shortened name. |
| Word number plate | The registration number creates a recognizable word. |
| Dateless registraton | The registration number does not have a year identifier (not to be confused with Irish registrations) |
| Irish registration | Like dateless registration numbers, Irish registrations do not have a year identifier. They contain either an 'I' or 'Z'. |
| Number plate theme | Registration numbers which don't fit any of the above, may have some value if they fit into a theme, for instance a car make such as BMW. Take a look at our number plate themes to give you some ideas. |

Suffix registrations and prefix registrations (which don't create a name or word) may still have some value, depending on the actual letters and accompanying digits. Look for common letters such as M, B, J (not X, U) and low numbers. | |
| Current style registrations (which don't create a name or word) are likely to be of little value as there are lots of these available, and more are issued each year. | |
